Taiwan has officially entered a super-aged society. In the Dongrong community, located near TCC Green Energy's Aquavoltaic projects in Budai and Yizhu, Chiayi, an aging population is a pressing concern. This Dragon Boat Festival, TCC Green Energy partnered with the local association to host a "Green Care" event. Through interactive zongzi wrapping and aromatic sachet crafting, the activity aimed to relax the elderly's minds and bodies, embodying TCC's philosophy of industrial and community inclusion.

"I really loved this floral fabric sachet, and it was so much fun having you all here to wrap zongzi with us," expressed a 101-year-old grandma from Dongrong Village in Chiayi, her words capturing the joy of participating in the event. This Dragon Boat Festival, the coastal areas of Chiayi were filled not only with the fragrance of zongzi and mugwort but also with the warmth of community support.

TCC Green Energy Steps into Communities to Alleviate Aging Issues in Fishing Villages

Taiwan is officially entering a super-aged society in 2025, with the proportion of people aged 65 and over already exceeding 20%. Specifically, the Budai and Yizhu areas in Chiayi, where TCC Green Energy's projects are located, are among the fastest-aging agricultural and fishing villages in Taiwan. Facing both energy transition and an aging society, the role of sustainable enterprises is not only to be environmental guardians but also an important part of the social well-being network. In Chiayi, a land neighboring the sea, TCC actively responds to the Ministry of Agriculture's "Green Care Policy." Beyond ensuring stable power supply from its project sites, TCC is also dedicating efforts to care issues within the fishing village communities surrounding these sites, demonstrating a new role in corporate social engagement.

Dragon Boat Festival Green Care Initiative Promotes Elder Health
An aging population is not merely a family issue but a challenge faced by society. Therefore, TCC Green Energy has partnered with the Caipu and Dongrong Village Community Development Associations in Budai to officially launch the "Green Care" initiative, starting with the Dragon Boat Festival. Local ward chiefs and village chiefs actively participated, with the community associations and village chiefs taking the lead in inviting participants. They also collaborated with Green Care instructors certified by the Chiayi County Government to co-design the course content, creating a community care model based on shared learning, shared feelings, and co-creation.

This event, centered around crafting fragrant sachets for the Dragon Boat Festival, integrated cognitive training, sensory stimulation, and social participation into the creation process. This promoted the seniors' cognitive function and overall well-being. Their active involvement and self-expression during the workshop infused each piece with individual creativity and pride.

Smelling the fragrances →    Stimulates olfactory nerves and activates memory systems

Grabbing herbs →    Improves finger dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and joint mobility

Matching ingredients →    Trains cognitive logic and concentration

Tying the sachets →     Fosters autonomous choice and creative confidence

In this "Green Care" initiative, TCC Green Energy comprehensively covered all four aspects of the Ministry of Agriculture's Green Care policy:

Aspects

Actions

Green Place

Community spaces that are close to nature, encouraging elders to leave their homes and reconnect with the environment.

Green Diet

Incorporating mugwort and seasonal cultural foods to support communal meals, promoting herbal dietary therapy and local cuisine.

Green Therapy

Utilizing various therapeutic herbs to create fragrant sachets, combining sensory stimulation with rehabilitation training to boost elders' participation and physical coordination.

Green Companionship

Fostering interaction between youngsters, employee volunteers, and elders to create companionship and cross-generational emotional exchange.

"We actively planned this event with the community, from wrapping zongzi to making fragrant sachets. The participating elders, adults, and children all had a wonderful time, "shared a TCC Green Energy colleague, demonstrating the company's dedication to the community and active involvement in issues concerning the aging population. The colleague added, "Everyone said they didn't expect community integration activities could be so much fun, and we're so glad to have received such a positive response! Through this hands-on interaction, I also gained a deeper understanding of the community."

Implementing a "Health Bankbook" Concept to Build a Care Network

Looking ahead, every participating elder will receive a personalized "Senior Health Bankbook." This is more than just an activity memento; it's a record of their health and ongoing participation, symbolizing their continued strong connection to society. They are not passively waiting to be cared for, but rather indispensable members of the community, actively engaging in life with health and joy.

TCC Green Energy will continue its "Green Care" initiatives in Chiayi and promote responsible aquaculture and support for youth returning to their hometowns within its project areas. The aim is to combine green energy expertise with deep community care, creating a sustainable site model that encompasses energy, production, and care. This will weave a warm and mutually supportive network along the Chiayi coast.
