Committed to Carbon Reduction: Partnering with Hundreds of Construction Companies

As the world seeks carbon reduction solutions at the COP29 United Nations Climate Summit, TCC is actively promoting carbon reduction in the construction industry. Through close collaboration with hundreds of construction companies, TCC announced the establishment of the 'Low-Carbon Construction Pioneers Alliance' on November 18th, 2024. Over the past year, TCC sold over 800,000 cubic meters of limestone cement concrete, with signed orders exceeding 2.5 million cubic meters. Through the production and use of low-carbon building materials, TCC and its clients have collectively reduced carbon emissions by 146,000 tons, demonstrating a substantial commitment to environmental sustainability.

Aligning with International Standards: Launching the Latest Low-Carbon Building Materials

TCC is dedicated to refining carbon reduction technologies in its products and actively developing low-carbon building materials. At the COP29, the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA) officially released the definition of low-carbon concrete. TCC proactively aligned with international standards, launching Taiwan’s lowest-carbon limestone cement concrete. This breakthrough technology achieves a carbon reduction rate significantly lower than the government’s low-carbon assessment manual's standard for general concrete, with a reduction rate of up to 53%, setting a new benchmark for carbon reduction in Taiwan's construction industry.

Continuous Low-carbon Technology Breakthrough

In October 2023, TCC launched the Total Climate low-carbon product series with a carbon reduction rate of 15.4%. A year later, in November 2024, the carbon reduction rate increased to 23.83%, marking an additional 8.43% reduction from the previous year. According to all publicly available data in Taiwan, TCC's Portland-limestone Cement Concrete remains the lowest-carbon product in the industry, with product carbon footprints of 186.52 kgCO2/m3, 218.69 kgCO2/m3, and 231.89 kgCO2/m3 for the 4000, 5000, and 6000 psi specifications, respectively.
The Vision of a Corporate Leader

TCC Chairman Nelson Chang articulated the company's environmental responsibility with profound insights. He pointed out, 'At the beginning of 2024, Africa was ravaged by drought, and Saudi Arabia experienced unprecedented flooding. The impacts of climate change affect not only the parched lands of farmers but also the air children breathe and humanity's aspirations for the future.' Unlike many companies with high carbon emissions that attempt carbon reduction by selling off assets, TCC is committed to making cement sustainably exist and reduce carbon emissions.

The Consensus between Industry and Academia

Leading construction companies such as Kedge Construction and HI-YES Group are loyal users of TCC's limestone cement concrete. Tech giant ASML has also adopted TCC limestone cement concrete. Wang Jack, the President of HI-YES Group, emphasized that low-carbon solutions are essential, and consumers recognize TCC as a guarantee of quality. Lin Hsien-Te, an honorary professor at the Department of Architecture at National Cheng Kung University, known as the father of green buildings in Taiwan, stressed that promoting low-carbon building materials is crucial for the government to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

The Global Trend of Carbon Reduction is Unstoppable

The United Nations' 2024 Emissions Gap Report suggests that using limestone and other materials as alternative clinker in low-carbon cement could help the world reduce carbon emissions by 400 million tons of CO2e by 2035, highlighting it as a cost-effective and highly impactful carbon reduction solution. The U.S. has already set a prime example. The transportation departments in all 50 states have approved the use of low-carbon cement in transportation construction, increasing the market share of low-carbon cement in the U.S. from 2% in 2018 to approximately 35% in 2023.

Policy Advocacy for Fair Competition

TCC also calls on the government to ensure that both local and imported products disclose their carbon footprints and take responsibility for the costs of carbon emissions based on fair competition.

Collaborating for a Sustainable Future

TCC's low-carbon innovations are not only a demonstration of corporate social responsibility but also provide concrete and feasible pathways for carbon reduction in Taiwan's construction industry. Through technological breakthroughs, industry collaboration, and policy advocacy, we are working together toward a more sustainable future.
