Molicel’s ultra-high power cells are powering the global high-end automotive industry to explore future performance and environmentally friendly electric solutions. The Goodwood Festival of Speed is the world’s most prestigious racing event, and the McMurtry Spéirling, equipped with Molicel ultra-high power cells, has been invited to participate in the highest-level showcase for three consecutive years after setting a record in 2022 with its astonishing acceleration capabilities.

McMurtry Brings Both the 2022 Record-Breaking Car and the 2024 Production Model to the Classic Track

Goodwood Festival of Speed: A Must-See Event for Racing Enthusiasts Worldwide

Every summer, the estate in West Sussex, southern England, attracts tens of thousands of people for a grand event eagerly anticipated by car enthusiasts worldwide: the Goodwood Festival of Speed. It is not just a race, but a carnival of speed and passion.

This track, built on the site of a former Royal Air Force airfield from World War II, is steeped in history. Each year, renowned racers and top car manufacturers from around the world gather here to put on a thrilling display of speed and passion. The hill climb is the core of Goodwood, and this 1,890-meter track, with an elevation gain of only 92.7 meters, is challenging due to its historical ambiance and narrow course. Many car owners invite famous drivers to pilot their classic cars, enabling these legendary vehicles to shine once again.

In 2022, McMurtry Set a Record with 39.08 Seconds, Awarded in Front of the Estate

McMurtry Spéirling: The Rising Star of Electric Racing Cars

The Spéirling, equipped with Molicel ultra-high power cells, boasts up to 1,000 horsepower in its compact and lightweight body. Debuting in early 2022, it shattered the 23-year record held by the McLaren F1 MP4/13 since 1999, with an impressive time of 39.08 seconds, reducing the previous record by 2.5 seconds. This design, which reduces energy conversion losses and carbon emissions by more than 40% compared to conventional internal combustion engine race cars, has become the best example of balancing enhanced racing performance with environmental sustainability.

Molicel ultra-high power cells: The Heart of Electric Racing Cars

What gives the McMurtry Spéirling its formidable performance? The answer lies in its heart: Molicel's ultra-high power cells. About four years ago, the McMurtry team, composed of F1 engineering experts, completed the development of a pure electric prototype car featuring unique fan suction and optimal aerodynamics. However, they struggled to find battery cells capable of supporting instant acceleration and long track endurance. Eventually, they found Molicel, whose high energy capacity and high power became the only solution to meet the needs of this “crazy Batmobile.”

Molicel ultra-high power cells give the Spéirling astonishing acceleration, enabling it to go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 1.5 seconds. In addition to its outstanding lap performance, it has rapid charging capabilities, meeting the high braking recharge currents required on the track.

Moving Toward a Sustainable Future Without Compromise

Molicel is dedicated to developing high performance, long cycle life power cells, injecting green power into the electric vehicle industry. Molicel has sponsored McMurtry since 2022; in these three years, McMurtry has grown from an unknown startup to a new electric racing car powerhouse. Molicel's ultra-high power cells have not only helped the Spéirling achieve excellent results on the track, but also set a new benchmark for the development of Hyper EV technology.

The environmental sustainability benefits of using Molicel's ultra-high power cells lie in their high energy density, which surpasses other cells on the market. The batteries have high endurance, allowing for longer driving ranges on a full charge, and their high power characteristics significantly extend battery life, increasing carbon reduction by 35% per battery. This not only enhances environmental sustainability, but also ensures that the pursuit of performance in electric racing cars is not compromised.

In 2025, McMurtry will begin delivering the production version, equipped with Molicel's next-generation ultra-high power cells. This will easily achieve lighter battery packs and reduced vehicle weight, significantly enhancing electric racing car performance. This engineering capability and electromechanical design will continue to provide efficient and reliable battery solutions for the electric vehicle industry.

In addition to land transportation, Molicel’s ultra-high power cells support European and American electric aircraft manufacturers in creating long-range, safe, and economically eVTOL based on net-zero carbon emissions. eVTOLs are powered by electricity, making them more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly than traditional fuel.

Molicel's ultra-high power cells will continue to use commercially viable advanced lithium battery technology and innovative, comprehensive specifications to help the transportation industry enter a new chapter in carbon reduction.
