TCC's DAKA RRRC Wins Green GOOD DESIGN Award, Redefining Industrial Aesthetics

Located at TCC Group Holdings' Hoping Plant in Hualien, the TCC DAKA Renewable Resource Recycling Center won the 2026 Green GOOD DESIGN Award in Green Architecture, alongside the Diamond Green Building Label, the highest green building certification granted by Taiwan's Ministry of the Interior. This fusion of design and circular technology transforms functional waste-management infrastructure into a public-facing, sustainable living space.

Dual Honors: Environmental Performance and International Design Aesthetics

The Diamond Green Building Label evaluates four major dimensions—ecology, energy conservation, waste reduction, and health—across nine strict indicators: biodiversity, greenery, site water retention, daily energy conservation, CO₂ reduction, construction waste reduction, indoor environment, water resources, and sewage and waste improvement.

Additionally, the U.S.-based Green GOOD DESIGN Award praised the center as a "Living Lab." Transcending conventional industrial roles, it turns waste-treatment infrastructure into a transparent space for public engagement. From an international design perspective, the center masterfully balances carbon reduction and resource circularity with innovation, aesthetics, functionality, quality of life, economic viability, and a connection to nature, culture, and society.

 

 

Transforming NIMBY Facilities: Circular Technology Meets Architectural Aesthetics

As Taiwan's first demonstration site where domestic waste is co-processed using the high temperatures of a cement kiln, the center utilizes this extreme 1,300-degree Celsius heat to thoroughly decompose refuse, converting usable components into alternative material and fuel.

At its first-floor entrance, the "Nautilus Bibliothek" injects civilizational aesthetics into an industrial setting. Its striking design led the lifestyle publication Shopping Design to ask, "Turning a Waste-Treatment Facility into a Bibliothek?" This coverage highlights TCC's commitment to opening its factory doors, offering the public an up-close look at resource circulation and industrial operations.

Expanding Ecological Impact at the Hoping Open Factory

Since the TCC DAKA park opened in 2020, TCC has continuously evolved a historically closed-off industrial site into an an open platform for the public to explore industrial transformation, the circular economy, and ecological conservation.

Today, both the Hoping Industrial Eco-port and the Hoping Power Plant are certified Environmental Education Facilities and Field (EEFF). Furthermore, the Eco-port is officially recognized as an Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measure (OECMs), safeguarding local coral reefs and marine life.

 

Inside the center, visitors explore the Nautilus Bibliothek—bridging Eastern and Western knowledge—and wander through the "Fern Garden," preserving diverse plant species. TCC is transforming the Hoping site into a hands-on open factory showcasing the coexistence of industry and nature.
