TCC Group Holdings announced today that its "Portland Limestone Cement" (produced at the Hoping and Suao Plants) and "Portland Limestone Cement Concrete" (produced at the Taipei Plant) have formally obtained the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certification. This achievement makes TCC the first enterprise in Taiwan to hold "Eco labels" for both low-carbon cement and concrete building materials. It marks a significant milestone for Taiwan’s construction industry, evolving from single-point carbon emission observation to an era of "full-spectrum environmental impact disclosure."
TCC noted that while the industry has previously focused primarily on ISO 14067 Carbon Footprint verification to meet government regulations, global supply chains are now imposing increasingly stringent requirements for sustainable governance. Greenhouse gas emission data is no longer sufficient to fully reflect a product’s true ecological impact. EPD certification, based on the rigorous scientific standards of ISO 14025, requires a complete Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). Beyond disclosing greenhouse gas data regarding global warming (such as methane), it encompasses critical indicators including water resource usage and waste management. Through this voluntary initiative, TCC is proactively elevating the data standards of Taiwan’s building materials to meet international benchmarks.
Although TCC’s domestic cement and concrete production primarily serves local infrastructure rather than export markets, the company maintains a consistent high standard for its global operations. Following the successful EPD certification of its subsidiaries in Portugal and Turkey, TCC has swiftly localized this leading European environmental data governance experience to Taiwan. TCC stated that this certification ensures its domestic Portland Limestone Cement and Concrete possess the same level of environmental transparency as their European counterparts. Consequently, clients in public constructions, high-tech facilities, and green building projects can enjoy the highest specification of environmental information support without facing international regulatory gaps or data discontinuities.
Unlike traditional carbon footprints that focus solely on greenhouse gases, the EPD certification obtained by TCC discloses multi-dimensional environmental indicators in detail. This includes ensuring water footprint efficiency through scientific monitoring to implement water recycling in the production process. Furthermore, the EPD rigorously evaluates the Acidification Potential (impact on soil pH), Eutrophication Potential (nutrient balance in water sources), and Ozone Depletion Potential. TCC emphasized that through the voluntary disclosure of this comprehensive data, the company can demonstrate with greater credibility how industrial production—through scientific management and technological upgrades—can support local construction while minimizing the overall burden on the land.
TCC underscores that promoting EPD certification is a tangible practice of transforming complex industrial processes into public, transparent, and verifiable scientific evidence. This represents not only technological leadership but also a corporate commitment to sustainable development. By building trust with society through data transparency, TCC aims to assist local clients in aligning with international trends, jointly constructing a climate-resilient green supply chain.
